BROTHERLY LOVE: Despite efforts by a local minister to block the sale, a Hindu group will soon be worshiping in its new Northridge home . . . bought from the Baptists (B11).

FRIENDLY FIRE: Mayor Richard Riordan sang the praises of Valley pal David W. Fleming at an Anti-Defamation League dinner Thursday. . . . But Hizzoner flubbed a line, saying Fleming--who was given the ADL’s annual Community Service Award--headed the Airport, not the Fire Commission. This with the real Airport Commission head and city attorney hopeful Ted Stein sitting nearby. Fleming set things right, saying he and Stein had talked: “I gave back the airport and took back fire.”

LAUGH AND LEARN: Also at the ADL dinner, CNN’s chief political analyst William Schneider gave an incisive report on global politics. . . . But first, he told a joke: How do you know what kind of Jewish wedding you’re attending? At an Orthodox wedding, the bride’s mother is pregnant; at a Conservative wedding, the bride is pregnant. And at a Reform wedding, the rabbi is pregnant.

By then the first riders are already at the lake. Map: B2.

RESCUE MISSION: Take the kids to pet Beethoven and Beethoven Jr. today and help four motherless children. . . . It’s a fund-raiser for the kids of a paramedic’s wife killed by a drunk driver last month. Widower Jake Schonert and his children will be there, at Modern Video, 26450 Friendly Valley Parkway in Saugus at 2 p.m.
