Oklahoma State ended 19 years of frustration against Oklahoma on Saturday, using a strong defensive performance and one big play on offense to win, 12-0.

The victory was Oklahoma State’s first against its in-state rival since 1976, and it marked the first time since a 10-0 loss to Missouri in 1983 that Oklahoma had been shut out.

The loss means Oklahoma, 5-4-1 overall and 2-4 in the Big Eight, must beat No. 1 Nebraska on Nov. 24 if it hopes to play in a bowl game. It also ensures the Sooners their first losing record in the conference since 1965.

Oklahoma State (3-7, 2-4) had come close to beating the Sooners during the streak, but Oklahoma always found a way to win or tie.

The Cowboy defense, porous this season, made two goal-line stands in the second half. The first came with about seven minutes left in the third quarter and started after Oklahoma recovered a fumble at the 20-yard line.

The Sooners got as close as the two-yard line, but then Jerald Moore was stopped for minus-two yards and Eric Moore lost one yard on a rollout. On fourth down, he threw incomplete.

The final stand came in the final two minutes. A 34-yard completion to P.J. Mills gave Oklahoma first and goal at the three, but Eric Moore threw incomplete on the next three plays and then was chased out of bounds for a four-yard loss on fourth down.

The game’s only touchdown came with 6:24 remaining, a one-yard sneak by Tone’ Jones, who one play earlier had completed a 47-yard pass to Terance Richardson. The two-play drive started at the Oklahoma 48.
