MOORPARK : Driver, 86, Dies After Hitting Power Pole
An 86-year-old Moorpark man died Sunday after his car struck a power pole off Los Angeles Avenue west of Moorpark, officials said.
Thomas Wilson was driving westbound about 40 to 45 m.p.h. when the accident occurred at 11:25 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Traveling just east of Hitch Boulevard, Wilson approached a curve and tapped his brakes, but continued in a straight line, authorities said. He left the road and drove directly into a power pole, the CHP said.
Wilson remained conscious for about a minute after the accident, then passed out, officials said. Rescue personnel tried to resuscitate him before he was airlifted to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 12:02 p.m.
