Share

An assailant tied up and robbed an employee at a nail and hair salon Monday morning and tried to rape her, police said, but her screams frightened him away.

The attack at the salon in the 16900 block of Beach Boulevard occurred about 9:30 a.m., police said, when a man with a blue-steel semiautomatic handgun and a knife entered through an unlocked back door. He demanded money from the woman, who was alone, and threatened to kill her before tying her hands behind her back and emptying her purse of about $500, police said.

He then began removing her clothes at knifepoint, police said, but fled out the back door when she began to scream.
