Donor Gives $10,000 to Preserve Mission
A resident of Leisure World in Laguna Hills has donated $10,000 anonymously to the Mission San Juan Capistrano preservation project.
The money will help restore the 219-year-old mission, which needs reinforcements in its Great Stone Church and repairs to its adobe walls, said Larry Porter, a city resident and vice president and manager of Merrill Lynch & Co., whose client donated the money.
Individuals may donate to the nonprofit mission through annual memberships in the Mission Preservation Society and direct grants.
“Without the participation of the public, both individuals and businesses, the mission will not be here for future generations,” said Jerry Miller, a mission administrator.
The landmark receives no support from the government or religious organizations, hesaid.
