Where the Swing Can Be Even Fuller
As a dedicated swing dancer, it was with considerable interest that I read “Full Swing” (Oct. 27), exploring several clubs.
The Atlas, Viper Room and Derby are all unique and charming venues, but none is particularly dancer-friendly. They are places to wear cool clothes, drink chic cocktails and listen to good music, but they’re not places to dance. Their dance floors are concrete or small and strangely shaped, so that just one wild or erratic couple on the floor effectively curtails genuine swing for everyone else.
For real swing, try The Crest in Reseda or Pasion in Studio City (lessons available at both), or call the Swing Hotline, listed in Santa Barbara.
The fashions are great, but that’s not all there is to swing. Try dancing--it’s the most fun you have standing up.
