Authorities Warn of Bank Closing Scam
Authorities Thursday issued a warning about a financial scam in Ventura County aimed at senior citizens.
The Ventura County district attorney’s office said several elderly residents received telephone calls from an unidentified female claiming to be a representative of the Bank of America branch at 9493 Telephone Road in Ventura.
The caller claims that the branch is closing and tells the senior citizens to withdraw their funds from the bank. No further instructions are given. No one has yet lost any money to the scam.
Officials are unsure how the caller knows the potential victims are bank customers, but said that the branch is not closing and that anyone who receives such a call is asked to call 911 immediately.
