Lambert Gets First Win at Hollypark Since ’86
Jerry Lambert, 54, who won three consecutive Hollywood Gold Cups aboard Native Diver in the late 1960s, won his first race at Hollywood Park in nearly a decade Friday night when riding even-money favorite Baffling Baffert to a two-length victory in the first race.
It was his 445th career victory at Hollywood Park.
Lambert, who resumed his career last year after a lengthy layoff, last won a race at Hollywood Park on July 4, 1986, aboard a 3-year-old filly named Mystical Dragon.
“This track always has been very good to me,” Lambert said after his victory in the six-furlong race for 2-year-old maiden claimers. “It feels like home to me.”
He primarily has been riding mixed breeds at Los Alamitos, where he won with all three mounts Thursday evening.
