Trustees’ Interests

* Re Maureen Aschoff’s comments in the Nov. 8 story on the Orange Unified School District board that the vote made her more confident in her goal to put Republican principles to work in her district: Ms. Aschoff is reminded that the office to which she has been reelected is nonpartisan. The fact that slightly over 12,000 citizens voted out of a possible 90,000 is not an overwhelming vote of confidence!

* Now, with the election over, we need to move on and work for the best interests of the students in the Orange Unified School District. Children of the OUSD should not become pawns in a squabble over Republican Party principles or union principles.

I believe when common sense prevails, we want pupils to learn based on sound and proven education principles.

Quality education has no political party affiliation, nor it is the exclusive domain of any union.

The school board as well as the unions need to cease and desist from engaging in “blamesmanship” and elevate the dialogue to more constructive levels.

I challenge the board and the employee associations to enter a new era of collaboration rather than confrontation for the betterment of the community.
