ORANGE COUNTY ALMANAC : Laguna Beach’s Pier Group
In 1896, the 16 registered voters of Laguna Beach decided that a pier was needed for the city’s residents and summer visitors, so they launched a fund-raising campaign.
Orange County pioneer James Irvine gave $100 to the cause, and with other donations and volunteer labor, a 500-foot pier was built.
