Obituaries : * Alfred Higgins; Former Owner of Higgins Market
Alfred E. Higgins, a longtime Ventura County resident and former owner of Higgins Market, has died. He was 89.
Higgins was born on March 2, 1906 in Kalamazoo, Mich. He moved to Ventura County from Los Angeles 47 years ago and operated Higgins Market on Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo for many years.
He was also a member of the Camarillo Rotary Club and an honorary Don for the Historical Society in Camarillo. Higgins was an avid golfer and a member of the Saticoy Country Club.
He is survived by Nina, his wife of 67 years; his daughter, JoAnne Wimberly of Oxnard; grandson Mark Wimberly of San Jose; granddaughter Teresa Kearney of Fremont; great-grandson John Kearney of Fremont; and great-granddaughter Lauren Kearney of Fremont.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Conejo Mountain Memorial Park and Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Assn. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of the Islands, Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo.
