Striped Bass Make Their Appearance

Share

At most Southland lakes, this is transition time. Catfish are getting sluggish and trout need more cool weather to become active.

But at two local reservoirs, striped bass are making a splash.

An angler from Hesperia caught the largest of the week at Silverwood Lake, a 35-pounder that took an anchovy at the spillway. And Ed Felps of Norco landed a 24-pounder at the San Bernardino County reservoir while fishing with a jig.

At Lake Skinner in Riverside County, Robert Petroff of Murrieta landed a 19-pounder on a lure at east end.

A spokesman at the Southland’s third striper fishery, Pyramid Lake in Los Angeles County, said the fish are beginning to boil on the surface mornings and evenings, but added that few are being caught.
