Share

Retired Detroit Tigers Manager Sparky Anderson will discuss the leadership roles of athletes and sports celebrities in their communities at Cal Lutheran University on Monday.

Before retiring this year at the end of the baseball season, Anderson managed the Cincinnati Reds in the 1970s and the Tigers from 1978 until his retirement. Highlights of his career include 2,171 victories, three World Series championships, five league pennants and seven division titles.

A longtime Thousand Oaks resident, Anderson has been active in supporting Cal Lutheran’s sports teams. Each year, he hosts the Sparky Anderson Golf Tournament, whose proceeds go to the university’s baseball team.
