Bullets’ Pack Puts Heat on Miami

Robert Pack scored 13 of his 21 points in the third quarter, and Juwan Howard added 18 points as the Washington Bullets beat the Miami Heat 110-94 Friday night.

Gheorghe Muresan had 19 points and 15 rebounds for the Bullets, who won consecutive games for the first time this season.

Alonzo Mourning had 24 points and eight rebounds and Billy Owens added 22 points for Miami, which had won its previous three games.

Miami had won four straight and eight of 10 against the Bullets, who got 17 points from Calbert Cheaney.

Washington improved to 5-0 when holding opponents under 100 points.

Rasheed Wallace, the Bullets’ first-round draft pick out, injured his left ankle with 3:16 remaining in the first half. He limped off the court and didn’t return.

Miami shot only 34 percent during a sloppy first half, but still led 19-16. Sasha Danilovic had seven points during the period, including a 3-pointer that broke a 16-all tie with 1:25 remaining.

Howard scored eight of his 10 second-quarter points during the first four minutes of the period, helping the Bullets to a 27-26 lead.

Washington shot 60% in the first half. Miami, meanwhile, went scoreless for a 3:29 stretch midway through the second quarter.

The Bullets outscored the Heat 24-15 over the final 6:02 of the half, and led 56-45 at halftime.

Pack had 13 points and was 9-for-9 from the line in the third quarter, and Washington used an 11-4 run midway through the period to pull away to an 87-73 lead.
