ORANGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL / PREP EXTRA : DIVISION VIII : Riverside Norte Vista Ends University’s Best Season, 26-7

Fullback Henry Hernandez scored three touchdowns to lead Riverside Norte Vista to a 26-7 victory over University in a Southern Section Division VIII second-round game Friday night at Riverside College.

Norte Vista (10-2) advances into the semifinals Saturday night against La Mirada, a 24-20 winner over Bloomington.

University, which had the most victories in the school’s history, finished with a 9-2-1 overall record.

University was unable to contain Norte Vista’s strong rushing game.

Hernandez rushed for 138 yards in 18 carries while Jeff Auterson rushed for 96 yards in 25 carries.

University struggled offensively. Senior Bryant Geary started at quarterback in place of regular starter Damian DeFeo, who missed his third game with an illness.

Geary completed six of 13 passes for 123 yards and had one intercepted. Junior Kelvin Murray led the Trojans with 48 yards in eight carries.

Murray’s one-yard touchdown run on the opening play of the fourth quarter to cut the Norte Vista lead to 14-7.

But Norte Vista increased its lead to 20-7 on a 51-yard touchdown run by Hernandez with 9:27 left in the game.

Norte Vista took a 26-7 lead on a six-yard touchdown run by Hernandez with 17 seconds left in the game.
