SAFETY FIRST

Regarding the slow death of theater in Los Angeles (“L.A. Theater’s Identity Crisis,” Oct. 1), may I make a suggestion or two.

As a middle-age female, I feel that my safety before and after a performance has to be a consideration. Smaller theaters with poorly lit parking lots or street parking only should consider having valet service available, and that information should be included in their advertising. These same smaller houses might also consider having Saturday and Sunday matinees. Ticket prices for afternoon performances could be the same as for evenings. Cost is not the primary consideration. Security is.

Larger theaters in areas such as Cerritos, South Bay, Pasadena, and even Thousand Oaks and Orange County are becoming increasingly popular destinations because the safety of their patrons is a consideration.
