NHL ROUNDUP : Puppa No. 1 in Lightning Victory

Daren Puppa stopped 37 shots as the Tampa Bay Lightning won, 2-1, over the host New York Islanders for their fifth victory in their last six games.

Puppa, wearing jersey No. 1 instead of his customary 93, saved the game by robbing Alexander Semak with 1:30 left with a left pad save and Patrick Flatley on the rebound with the same pad on a New York power play.

Pittsburgh 5, Buffalo 3--Richard Park and Glen Murray scored 28 seconds apart in the second period to help the host Penguins end the Sabres’ five-game unbeaten streak.

Dallas 2, New Jersey 0--Mike Modano had a shorthanded goal and Andy Moog turned aside 26 shots for his 22nd career shutout, sending the host Stars past the Devils before the first sellout crowd at Reunion Arena this season.

St. Louis 2, Toronto 2--Brett Hull had a goal and an assist and totaled 12 shots as the Blues tied the Maple Leafs at St. Louis.

Detroit 2, New York Rangers 0--Chris Osgood made 29 saves for his third shutout of the season as the Red Wings won at Detroit.

Colorado 2, Montreal 2--Sandis Ozolinsh scored with 1:52 left in regulation to give the Avalanche a tie with the host Canadiens.

Washington 4, Hartford 2--Michal Pivonka set up three goals and the Capitals’ power-play unit, the league’s least effective, struck twice to spark the victory over the host Whalers.

Boston 3, Ottawa 3--The Senators rallied from a two-goal deficit at Ottawa and snapped a nine-game losing streak.

San Jose 7, Vancouver 2--Second-period goals by Kevin Miller, Ray Sheppard and Ulf Dahlen sparked a comeback that lifted the Sharks over the Canucks at San Jose.
