Pepperdine Can’t Catch Grambling
Claude Coleman scored 26 points and made the go-ahead three-point shot as Grambling took control late in the game to defeat Pepperdine, 69-62, on Friday in the opening round of the Ameritas Classic.
Grambling (3-1) trailed 27-14 with six minutes left in the first half. The Tigers then outscored Pepperdine (1-2), 19-9, to cut the halftime lead to 36-33.
Grambling took the lead at 37-36 on Coleman’s layup three minutes into the second half, but Pepperdine’s Gerald Brown answered on the Waves’ next possession as the teams swapped the lead a dozen times.
Coleman put Grambling State in front for good with his three-point shot with 4:34 remaining.
In today’s final, Grambling will face host Nebraska, which defeated Georgia Southern, 82-59.
