Stanford did exactly what most veteran teams like to do against a group of relative youngsters.

“We got a little physical,” Coach Mike Montgomery said after his 16th-ranked Cardinal’s 82-70 victory over South Carolina on Friday night in the opening round of the Tournament of Champions at Charlotte, N.C.

Stanford grabbed 52 rebounds, including 24 on the offensive end, and harassed the Gamecocks into 37% field-goal shooting.
