UCI Fertility Clinic

* Your Nov. 20 editorial on the allegations of wrongdoing by UC Irvine doctors at the now-closed fertility clinic correctly pointed out the frustrations in trying to get a clear picture of just how many women may have been victimized by these doctors’ alleged acts of transferring eggs or embryos without the patients’ consent.

At UCI, this frustration is compounded by the fact that we still do not have a substantial portion of the patient records kept by these doctors, despite our having sued them for the records earlier this year. This makes our efforts to identify and offer assistance to patients who may have been affected even more difficult.

We strongly support the continuation of the federal criminal investigation, since the investigatory powers of the federal authorities are probably the best chance remaining at getting to the full truth of what happened in this tragedy, and at achieving justice. UCI will continue its efforts to identify and contact patients to offer assistance, based on the information we have or may be able to obtain in the future. We encourage patients to come forward by contacting our fertility patient hot line at (714) 456-8906.
