NHL ROUNDUP : Kozlov’s Four Goals Embarrass Canadiens

Vyacheslav Kozlov had his first four-goal game as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Canadiens, 11-1, Saturday night at Montreal for their fourth consecutive victory.

Sergei Fedorov had a goal and four assists and Igor Larionov had a goal and three assists as the Red Wings embarrassed the Canadiens with five goals in each of the first two periods.

Montreal, which was outshot, 41-23, is winless in its last five game.

N.Y. Islanders 4, New Jersey 1--Patrick Flatley’s first goal of the season triggered a three-goal first period and the Islanders rolled past the Devils at Uniondale, N.Y.

N.Y. Rangers 4, Ottawa 2--Pat Verbeek scored three goals and assisted on a fourth as the Rangers defeated the struggling Senators at Ottawa. The Senators are winless in their last 13 games.

Florida 5, Hartford 3--Ed Jovanovski, the No. 1 pick in the 1994 draft, scored his first career goal midway through the third period to help the Panthers win at Hartford, Conn.

St. Louis 7, Edmonton 3--Shayne Corson and Brett Hull each had two goals at Edmonton to help the Blues to their third consecutive victory.

Boston 6, Buffalo 4--Jozef Stumpe scored one goal and assisted on two others to run his point-scoring streak to eight games as the Bruins won at Boston.

Chicago 2, Winnipeg 2--Jeremy Roenick scored with 34 seconds left in the third period, giving the Blackhawks a tie at Winnipeg.

San Jose 5, Washington 3--Jeff Friesen scored two goals to lead the Sharks and their new coach, Jim Wiley, to a victory at San Jose.

NHL Notes

New York Islander General Manager Don Maloney was fired and replaced by his assistant, Darcy Regier. Regier was appointed acting GM while Al Arbour, the team’s vice president of hockey operations, searches for a permanent successor.
