Saying the reputation of their team is on the line, the Montreal Canadiens suspended Patrick Roy, one of the greatest goaltenders in the history of the storied franchise.

“For the credibility of our coach and our organization, we had to split between our organization and Patrick,” General Manager Rejean Houle said Sunday.

Roy was suspended indefinitely and put on the trading block after an outburst that involved the coach and team president during an 11-1 loss to Detroit on Saturday night.
