MOORPARK : Council May Sign With Trash Haulers

Share

After a series of temporary extensions, the Moorpark City Council will consider Wednesday renewing an exclusive trash hauling contract with two local companies.

The two companies--Anderson Disposal and G.I. Industries, both of Simi Valley--would share exclusive contracts to pick up trash for commercial and residential customers.

Although city officials approved a tentative agreement with the two companies this summer to grant exclusive five-year contracts, news of the possible sale of one of the firms kept the city council members from signing the final agreement.

G.I. Industries declared bankruptcy in 1992, and if a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge does not approve a recent plan to reorganize the firm, it could be put on the auction block this month and sold.

While the city is ready to commit to a contract with Anderson Disposal, council members have said they are concerned about the possible sale of G.I.

On Wednesday the City Council will consider renewing the contract for just one year and then wait to see if the company is sold.

If G.I. is sold, the council could then look at the performance of the new owners and determine whether the city wants to do business with them.

The contract will reduce rates slightly and add such services as curbside pick-ups of yard and garden clippings for composting.
