MISSION VIEJO : Commission OKs Day-Care Expansion

Share

Saying that a community can’t have too many good care givers, the Planning Commission this week approved an expansion of a child-care center in a neighborhood that already has several such facilities.

The commission was split on whether Manijeh Nahed and Pari Mahran should be allowed to care for 12 children instead of six at the home at 24271 Augustin St.

Commissioners Tom Potocki and Norman P. Murray on Monday agreed with neighbors who said the day-care center could pose noise and traffic problems if it serves as many as a dozen children.

Potocki said several other home care facilities, including one for senior citizens, already operate within a few blocks of the home, and the neighborhood already may be at its capacity for traffic as children are dropped off and picked up.

But Commissioner Sunnie Castner disagreed, citing supportive testimony from parents whose children already are at the center.

The commission approved the expansion on a 3-2 vote.
