SIMI VALLEY : Merchants Warned of Phony $100 Bills

Share

Counterfeit bills are circulating in Simi Valley, and authorities are warning merchants to examine each $100 bill they receive during the holiday season.

The bogus money consists of $1 bills subtly restamped in the larger denomination. The paper is legal tender, Police Chief Randy G. Adams said.

But the counterfeiters left three distinguishing features on the bad bills. On the front, upper-left corner of the bill, a “G3” is stamped, while the lower left corner is marked “G209.” The number “65” is stamped on the middle of back of the counterfeit bills.

If all three of these markings are present on a $100 bill, the merchant should request identification from the bearer and call police.

Concerned merchants can call the Simi Valley Police Department at 583-6950.
