INSIDE & OUT : Creature Feature

Lions and tigers and bears? Geckos and coyotes and serpents?

If you want to know where the wild things are, look no further than the Alan Sculpture collection at the newly opened Gallery Luna Loca in Capistrano Beach.

Fashioned in various metals, the menagerie by Alan and Heike Pfeiffer is ideal for table and wall ornaments or focal points in a garden, pool or courtyard.

Copper-clad aluminum pieces have a textured patina, and those made of steel are given a hand-painted copper or turquoise patina for highlights. Each signed piece is a one-of-a-kind silhouette that appears to have motion. Outdoor works are corrosion resistant in any climate and are available in two- or three-dimensional form.

The sculptures range in size from 6 inches to 6 feet. Prices start at about $68 for fish, $119 for sea horses, $235 for geckos and $285 for mermaids. The Pfeiffers also accept custom work.

The Gallery Luna Loca, which has art showings on full moons (the next is Thursday), is at 34700 Coast Highway in the Capistrano Surf Center. Call (714) 489-3299.

In the Mood

Happy hour can be any hour you choose with the Magnetic Fridge clock by Mine Design of Los Angeles.

With 20 “moods” taken from Shakespearean sonnets to choose from, you can change your state of mind--literally--minute by minute or hour by hour. You can be stressed at noon, saucy by 1 p.m. and sultry at 4.

Mine Design, which debuted its clock ($44) a year ago, is the brainchild of Melissa Dagodag and Amal Flores. Dagodag and Flores met while attending Stanford University. Upon graduation in 1991, they began their design firm with funds Dagodag earned while modeling.

The clock is available at museum gift shops in the county or at Z Gallerie stores. For more information, call (800) 973-0555.

Le Noir Magique

Keeping your table in the black doesn’t have to mean boring or blase, especially with the City Black collection at Ikea. Rather, the Ovidia linens and service ware will give your settings a decidedly cosmopolitan look.

In the collection are dinner and salad plates ($3.50 and $4.50), napkins (18 7/8-inch square, $6 for a set of four) and a tablecloth (59 inches by 86 5/8 inches in red/black or blue/black, $16).

Ikea is at 2982 El Camino Real in the Tustin Marketplace. For more information, (714) 838-4000.
