San Fernando : Tow Franchise to Add $64,000 to City Coffers

Share

A towing franchise that the San Fernando City Council voted last week to establish will generate an additional $64,000 in revenue for the city’s General Fund, said San Fernando Police Chief Dominick Rivetti.

“In the past, we piggybacked on the LAPD’s towing contractor” when the Police Department needed to impound or store cars, Rivetti said. Towing and impounding fees in years past have brought the city between $35,000 to $40,000, he added.

But city officials realized they could generate more money by granting a towing franchise and charging a franchise fee of $41 per tow, Rivetti said. The owner of an impounded vehicle pays a minimum of $35 to get the vehicle out of police storage.

“The franchise fee is a nice little revenue producer,” Rivetti said.

No bid will be received unless it is made on a proposal form furnished by the chief of police.
