END OF AN ERA: DONAHUE RESIGNS : Westwood, 1964

1964--A walk-on at UCLA, he redshirts in his first season as a Bruin.

1965-66--Starts at defensive tackle under Coach Tommy Prothro. The Bruins compile a 17-3-1 record over that span, including a 14-12 upset of undefeated Michigan State in the 1966 Rose Bowl, UCLA’s first bowl victory ever.

1971-75--Serves as offensive line coach at UCLA, for three seasons under Coach Pepper Rodgers and two seasons under Coach Dick Vermeil.

Feb. 11, 1976--Named the school’s 13th coach at age 31.

Sept. 9, 1976--Upsets Arizona State, 28-10, at Tempe in his first game as coach.

Oct. 30, 1976--Bruins defeat Washington in Seattle for the first time since 1958.

1976-78--Wins three in a row from Washington, the first Bruin coach since Red Sanders to accomplish that feat.

1982-91--Leads Bruins to eight consecutive bowl victories, including seven un consecutive years.

Sept. 25, 1992--Coaches UCLA to first victory over Michigan at Ann Arbor.

1983-86--Gets four consecutive New Year’s Day bowl victories, one of four coaches in history to do so (Bear Bryant, Bobby Dodd and Bobby Bowden are the others.)
