HUNTINGTON BEACH — An armed robber fled a bank Tuesday carrying more than $7,000 in cash in a fast-food paper bag, police said.
The man entered the Citibank in the 7500 block of Edinger Avenue about 2:45 p.m. and stood in the teller line wearing dark glasses, Sgt. Barry Case said. When the man reached the teller, he gave her a dollar bill and asked for quarters and a cash advance.
When the teller looked up at him, he slipped her a note. She looked at the note twice and hesitated because the writing was illegible, police said. The robber became excited, pulled out a chrome handgun, possibly a revolver, and pointed it at the teller, demanding all the cash in her drawer, Case said.
The woman complied and the man stuffed the money in a MacDonald’s bag, Case said. He demanded more money and got it.
The robber then fled the bank and was seen heading east on Edinger Avenue.
Police estimate the total loss at $7,000 to $8,000.
The robber is described as white, in his mid-20s, about 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7 and 160 to 170 pounds. He has brown hair and a light brown mustache. He was last seen wearing a dark cap, green golf shirt and jeans.
