SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Freeway Changes Made to Boost Businesses

Share

Motorists on Interstate 5 passing through San Juan Capistrano may have noticed the new freeway signs recently posted by California Department of Transportation.

At the request of city officials hoping to guide visitors to the downtown area, the former San Juan Creek offramp signs on both the northbound and southbound sides of the freeway now read Camino Capistrano.

The three-mile stretch between Ortega Highway and Pacific Coast Highway also has new carpool lanes, sound walls and other ramp modifications, said Pam Gorniak, a Caltrans spokeswoman.

San Juan Capistrano City Manager George Scarborough said the sign change was requested by the city’s business task force.

Camino Capistrano is the main street through the city where many of its businesses are located, Scarborough said.
