From Associated Press

Adam Oates scored a career-high four goals Thursday night to lead the Bruins to a 6-4 victory over Florida at Boston and end the Panthers’ six-game unbeaten streak.

Oates scored twice in the second period and once in the third to turn a 2-1 game into a 5-1 blowout.

“I don’t know anybody that doesn’t like to score,” said Oates, who arrived at the arena 10 minutes before warmups because of a snowstorm that dumped seven inches of snow on the area.

“Maybe that’s the secret,” he said. “Don’t worry about the game. Just come here and play.”

Oates also had the puck in the Florida end in the waning seconds after the Panthers had pulled the goalie, but he passed it to Neely. No Bruin has ever scored five goals in one game in the franchise’s history.

Philadelphia 4, Tampa Bay 0--John LeClair scored two goals and Ron Hextall got his first shutout of the season as the Flyers won a fight-filled game at Philadelphia.

Washington 4, New York Islanders 3--Steve Konowalchuk knocked in Dale Hunter’s rebound 2:16 into overtime to give the Capitals a victory at Landover, Md.

St. Louis 3, Calgary 3--Shayne Corson’s goal with 14:22 remaining in regulation gave the Blues a tie with the Flames at St. Louis.

Toronto 4, San Jose 1--Doug Gilmour had two goals and an assist, including the tie-breaking score in the second period, as the Maple Leafs beat the Sharks at San Jose. Gilmour and Mike Gartner scored second-period goals.
