An Oxnard plan checker has pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of conflict of interest for taking money from developers to speed their projects through the planning bureaucracy, officials said.

In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors dropped three other misdemeanor charges against Milton Huertas, a five-year city employee.

Wrong charges--A story Saturday incorrectly described the charges to which Oxnard plan checker Milton Huertas entered a guilty plea. Huertas pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of conflict of interest for approving projects for developers he worked for privately.

A judge placed Huertas, 40, on probation Tuesday and ordered the Newbury Park man to perform 300 hours of community service with Habitat for Humanity.

An Oxnard official said Huertas remains on the city payroll pending the outcome of an internal investigation. Huertas, who is paid between $3,379 and $4,333 per month, has been moved out of the Planning Department since he was charged in June.
