Here’s Why O’Malley Runs Class Organization

Share

Today I received a letter from my terminally ill 44-year-old brother, Bill, who called to tell me that he received a call from Vin Scully. My brother had told me that his hero in life was Scully, who he said never did anything but bring pleasure to those who came within his influence.

I had contacted the Dodgers to see if it was possible for Mr. Scully to contact my brother. The fact that he did call Bill was no surprise to me: When you listen to a man for 35 years, you get to know him not just as a fan, but as a friend, even though you have never met him.

My brother described speaking to Mr. Scully in these words: “I felt as if I had hit a home run in Dodger Stadium and had Vinny to describe it.” Mr. O’Malley, I hold you and your organization responsible for my brother’s joy. My family and I will be forever in your debt.
