Grizzlies Avoid Tying Futility Record
The Vancouver Grizzlies avoided tying an NBA record for futility, snapping a 19-game losing streak Friday night with a 104-100 overtime victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.
The victory was the first for the expansion team after a 2-0 start and was the Grizzlies’ second this season against the Trail Blazers.
Vancouver, which already holds the record for most consecutive losses by an expansion team, missed equaling the record 20-game losing streaks of the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers and the 1993-94 Dallas Mavericks.
Rookie Bryant Reeves led Vancouver with 25 points and a season-high 17 rebounds and scored at the buzzer to force the overtime. Eric Murdock, starting in place of injured point guard Greg Anthony, had 14 points and 12 assists.
