SHOWS FOR YOUNGSTERS AND THEIR PARENTS TOO : Videos fill stockings--and bring more families together in the same room

Don’t despair if you forget to tape your favorite holiday TV shows, because they also can be found on video store shelves, perfect for gift giving and family viewing. Here’s a sampling:

Combine a classic kiddie tale with the splendor of Dorothy Hamill’s skating and you get ABC’s Cinderella ... Frozen in Time (Sony Wonder $13, available Dec. 26). Lloyd Bridges offers a turn as the enchanted storyteller. Originally adapted from Hamill’s North American live tour, “Cinderella” combines skating, narration, pantomime, costumes and an original score. For ages 4 and up.

Kathie Lee’s Rock n’ Tots Cafe (KidVision, $13) features the ever joyful Kathie Lee Gifford and friends who teach “the true meaning of Christmas,” happy style. Classic songs and original tunes are featured. For ages 2 to 6.

For marvelous “moosical” fun, check out The Moo Family Holiday Hoedown (Live $13) as the Moo family helps test Santa’s sleigh. For ages 2 to 6.

Two Nick Jr. shows come to holiday video life: Allegra’s Window: Waiting for Grandma (also airs Thursday and Dec. 25 at at 11 a.m. Nickelodeon) includes original footage and a new song created for video. Allegra anxiously awaits a visit from her beloved grandma to celebrate “Hummingbird Alley Holiday Happy Hoopla.” Four sing-along holiday tunes are presented in Eureeka’s Castle: Christmas at Eureeka’s Castle (also airs Thursday and Dec. 25 at 1 p.m. Nickelodeon). But the gang’s not really in the holiday spirit as Batly’s lost his temper, Eureeka’s lost her magic and Magellan’s lost in the forest while looking for a Christmas tree. Can they find Magellan in time for holiday festivities? (Both from Nick Jr. Video and Sony Wonder, $13). For ages 2 to 6.

Each Puzzle Place child gets to explain how his or her family celebrates the holidays in “Deck the Halls” (Sony Wonder $15), which aired on KCET earlier this month. Kiki explains the 12 days of Las Posadas; Leon talks about how his family observes both Christmas and Kwanza, and Jody explains the importance of Hanukkah. The message: No matter how you celebrate the season, it’s a great time of year to exchange the most valuable gifts of all: friendship, understanding and love. The video offers bonus footage, including an outing with the “Puzzle Place” kids skating in New York City. Patti La Belle joins the group for hot chocolate and a rousing version of “Jingle Bells.” A portion of the video’s proceeds will be donated to Grandma’s House, a Washington, D.C.-based organization for children who have either lost a parent to AIDS or have AIDS themselves. For ages 2 to 6.

It’s Rocko’s first Christmas in O-town and he’s looking for a little cheer and some snow in Rocko’s Modern Christmas (Sony Wonder $13). It looks like O-town’s not going to have much jingle jangling. Now it’s up to Rocko to revive the spirit. Also included is “Yak Shaving Day,” an offbeat holiday short from “Ren & Stimpy.” For ages 4 and up.

Another classic comes to video: The Velveteen Rabbit (ABC Video $10) about a stuffed bunny who comes to life, courtesy of the Nurse Fairy, to help his sick friend. For ages 2 to 8.

Family Shows On TV

Britt Allcroft’s Magic Adventures of Mumfie--Mumfie’s White Christmas (Saturday, 7 a.m. Fox) finds the little elephant planning a skating party and hoping the holidays are perfect for his friends. When he sets off on a mission to make his dream come true, he learns the legend of the beautiful snowbird, whose yearly flight spreads hope and happiness. For ages 2 to 6.

Dex learns traditions as he celebrates his first Christmas with his new family on Masked Rider (Saturday, 9 a.m. Fox) in “Ferbus First Christmas.” For ages 5 and up.
