Golden Mike Winners: KTTV-TV Channel 11 was honored with eight awards and KCAL-TV Channel 9 with seven in the first batch of winners announced for the 46th annual Golden Mike Awards. The awards, presented by the Radio & TV News Assn. of Southern California, recognize outstanding broadcast journalism during the past year. KTTV won the best documentary honor for “Ancient Medicine, Modern Cures,” a special on the medicinal powers of the rain forest reported by David Garcia as well as the best news special award. KCAL won for best news reporting, best economic reporting and best entertainment reporting, among other honors. KNX-AM (1070) and KFWB-AM (980) dominated the radio awards. More honors will be handed out at the association’s annual awards dinner in Beverly Hills Feb. 3, including those for best overall newscasts.

Techno Tenor: Opera star Placido Domingo will release his first multimedia project in 1997, a CD-ROM featuring excerpts from the tenor’s performances in popular operas, a behind-the-scenes look at his on-stage preparation and extensive background on the artist himself. “With this technology, the possibilities are endless for making the experience of vocal art not only entertaining, but deeply educational as well,” the “Three Tenors” member said in announcing the project. Called simply “Domingo,” the CD-ROM will be co-published by Calliope Media and the tenor’s record label, EMI Classics.

House of the Internet: Celebrity cyberchats abound today on the Internet. The House of Blues will officially launch its America Online site with a live cyberchat with “Blues Brother” Dan Aykroyd at 4 p.m. The House of Blues will host online chats with musicians backstage at the club’s various locations weekly. . . .John Larroquette of NBC’s “The John Larroquette Show” will hold his first cyberchat at 6:30 p.m. on the NBC SuperNet on Microsoft Network and on NBC’s site on the World Wide Web. . . . Academy Award-winning songwriters Alan and Marilyn Bergman will answer questions on CompuServe at 7 p.m. The duo’s current single, “Moonlight,” is featured in the movie “Sabrina”. . . . Teri Hatcher, the star of ABC’s “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” who has been called Queen of the Internet due to the popularity of on-line photos featuring her in a Superman cape, will chat today at 7:30 p.m. on ABC Online (available through AOL). After the Q&A;, Hatcher’s new photo will be revealed.

Michael Visits Mickey: Michael Jackson was set to travel to Euro Disney in France during the weekend for some rest after his release from Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, where he was recovering from a gastrointestinal ailment. A spokesman for Jackson said the pop star was visiting the theme park at the behest of Saudi Prince Alwaleed, a close friend and business associate.

Pricey Pants: The pair of brown leather pants that singer Jim Morrison wore on the cover of the Doors album “Absolutely Live” sold for $43,700 at a Sotheby’s memorabilia auction in New York on Saturday. The Doors’ leader, who wore the pants in 1968, died of a drug overdose in 1971. The pants, which were estimated to bring a price of about $25,000, were bought by the Hard Rock Cafe.

John Schwada has joined KTTV-TV Channel 11 as its political and government reporter. Schwada, who has covered politics for the Los Angeles Times since 1989, begins his new job on Jan. 2. . . . Paul McCartney’s wife, Linda McCartney, 53, underwent surgery in London to remove a lump from her breast. A spokesman for the former Beatle said Saturday the operation was successful, but he declined to say whether the lump was cancerous or benign. . . . A six-foot sculpture of the late Frank Zappa was unveiled in Vilnius, Lithuania, on Saturday by Lithuania’s Frank Zappa Fan Club in celebration of Zappa’s birthday this Thursday. Zappa, who died of prostate cancer in 1993, was a symbol of freedom of expression for musicians and artists in Eastern Europe during the Communist years.
