Owners Should Give Back Public Lands
The Texas Avenue residents who have been identified by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District as encroaching on public land should just accept this fact and take the necessary steps to correct the problem.
Instead of being angry at the park district for attempting to reclaim that which is the public’s, the homeowners should be angry at the city for failing to check the property boundaries before issuing permits for the pools, decks and patios.
Allowing these owners to keep any more land than what their lot dimensions allow, as shown on their recorded tract maps, would be extremely unfair to their neighbors who didn’t encroach and unfair to the public as well--and sets a bad example.
