NHL ROUNDUP : Desjardins Strong at Finish as Flyers Rally, 6-5

Philadelphia defenseman Eric Desjardins scored the tying goal--his first of the season--and set up the game-winner late in the third period Sunday as the Flyers defeated the Penguins, 6-5, at Philadelphia.
“I wanted to do something,” Desjardins said. “You know you can’t do too much, but you feel like you have to do something.”
Desjardins, who had five goals last season, delivered a wrist shot from the point on a power play that snuck under the left pad of goaltender Ken Wregget at 12:50 of the third.
Desjardins’ play on Rod Brind’Amour’s game-winner was spectacular. Desjardins kept the puck in at the right point, skated around and away from Petr Nedved, then found a Pittsburgh defenseman headed his way. At the same time, he also noticed Brind’Amour alone near the right side of the net.
“Most players would just try to flip it at the net,” Brind’Amour said. “He made a great play getting away, and then kept his head up and spotted me.”
Mario Lemieux had an assist to stretch his point-scoring streak to 14 games. The NHL’s scoring leader had been averaging 2.8 points per game coming in.
Vancouver 4, Ottawa 1--Josef Beranek and Larry Courville scored second-period goals at Vancouver as the Canucks handed the Senators their fifth consecutive loss.
Chicago 3, Winnipeg 1--Bob Probert broke a third-period tie with his sixth goal of the season, leading the Blackhawks at Chicago.
Dallas 4, San Jose 2--Greg Adams scored a short-handed goal at the end of the first period and Dave Gagner scored on a power play in the second as the Stars won at Dallas.
