Police said they charged a woman and her daughter with child endangerment Monday after finding eight of their children alone in a garbage-strewn, unheated apartment.

Doris Davis, 47, and her daughter, Phyllis Davis, 31, were arrested on charges of leaving the children, ages 10 months to 14 years, in the abandoned building for up to three days, officials said.

Police found the children after picking up a 14-year-old boy on the street late Sunday. He led them to the seven others in the squalid apartment that had no running water or electricity. The boarded-up building was used as a drug house, officials said.
