Cancer Society Unit Will Move to Cut Costs

Share

To streamline its operations, the American Cancer Society’s Orange County unit is moving its regional center to smaller quarters at 1940 E. Deere Ave. in Santa Ana.

The move from offices on Harbor Boulevard will include shifting some staff members to smaller, community-based offices in Anaheim, Mission Viejo and Fountain Valley, spokeswoman Jennifer Guenette said.

The organization also is planning to open two more local offices--in Irvine and Newport Beach--in early 1996, Guenette said. Most of the office space is donated, she said.

Officials expect the move to save about $90,000, which will help pay for anti-smoking classes and campaigns, breast cancer self-examination classes and other programs.

The Orange County branch of the international nonprofit agency has raised $2.2 million in the past year for treatment and prevention programs. It has a staff of 25 and works with a volunteer force of more than 12,000. Information: (714) 261-9446.
