No Chase Needed for Arrest : Crime: Arriving home, a robbery suspect is taken into custody by deputies working nearby on an unrelated matter.

A 23-year-old man suspected of robbing two boys at a shopping center Tuesday was arrested shortly afterward when he arrived home, where five sheriff’s deputies happened to be working on an unrelated matter near his house.

The deputies were investigating a report of a stolen vehicle about 2:30 p.m. when they saw Michael John Fletcher of Mission Viejo parallel-parking his blue sedan nearby, sheriff’s Lt. Keith Brown said.

“One of the investigators did a double take and noticed that the man matched the description of the robbery suspect reported earlier,” Brown said.

“They also found three $50s, a $20 and two $1 bills, exactly what was taken.”

Fletcher was arrested on suspicion of strong-arm robbery and was scheduled to be booked into Orange County Jail.

He is also suspected of a similar robbery Monday, but details of that robbery were not available.

About 20 minutes before Fletcher’s arrest, two 15-year-old boys told police that a man at a shopping center at Alicia Parkway and Jeronimo Road had demanded their wallets.

When one of the boys told him that he needed some money back, the man returned a $50 bill and then fled in a blue car, Brown said.

Descriptions of the robber and his car were broadcast, leading investigators to recognize Fletcher, Brown said.
