ORANGE COUNTY ALMANAC : The 8% Solution in Santa Ana
After seven months of contract negotiations, Santa Ana police agreed in January 1986 to an 8% pay increase, a compromise between the city’s 5% offer and the police union’s 14% demand.
The raise boosted the starting salary for a Santa Ana police officer to $27,579 a year. Base pay for a sergeant rose to $32,698.
