SANTA PAULA : Council Opposes Weather Station Site

Showing solidarity with Ojai-area residents, the Santa Paula City Council adopted a resolution opposing Nexrad, the weather-forecasting station at Sulphur Mountain.
In a unanimous vote, the council reaffirmed a position it took last year in supporting efforts to move the weather station to another site.
The matter was brought to the council earlier this week for a vote by two residents who live between Ojai and Santa Paula.
Ojai-area residents have opposed the 98-foot weather-tracking station, contending the low-level radiation emitted by the tower may cause cancer, birth defects or other problems after years of exposure.
National Weather Service officials say those claims are groundless.
