Share

A robber clad in black hit a Wells Fargo Bank in Ventura on Saturday, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The heist marks the 49th bank robbery in Ventura County this year.

Gary Auer, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Ventura office, said the man approached a teller at the branch at 270 S. Mills Road at 11:47 a.m. and handed the teller a note reading “This is a robbery.” The man told the teller he had a gun, but no one saw it, Auer said.

Auer said the robber placed the money and the note in an envelope and walked out the back of the bank. The robber was last seen on foot heading toward Maple Street. The suspect is described as a Latino man in his late 30s, wearing a black baseball cap, a black flannel shirt and black pants.

The FBI believes the man may also have robbed a First Interstate Bank at 3965 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. in Thousand Oaks on Dec. 15.
