Homeless Shelters

Share

Anchor House Associates would like to clarify some information in recent articles about South County shelters. Anchor House, an Ecumenical Service Alliance program, has been in operation in South County for nine years. It is a transitional shelter for families who find themselves newly homeless for a variety of reasons--loss of job, illness or other factors. The shelter has helped a number of abused women. Families are able to stay at Anchor House 60 days--longer if they are in a job program or other educational program. Residents are able to save to become independent again.

We are happy to have more shelters in our area, serving different needs. We all work together to alleviate a serious shortage of housing programs. However, [others] are not “the first” or “the only.”
