Westside : OFFICER ERROR
A Beverly Hills police officer pleaded no contest Tuesday to illegally detaining the driver of a limousine that collided with his van.
Los Angeles Municipal Judge Keith L. Schwartz sentenced Marion Piggee, 43, to two years on probation with the condition that he attend 12 anger-management courses, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Brian Williams. Piggee was also fined $1,500 and ordered to perform 15 days of community service.
Piggee, who was off duty at the time of the dispute, was charged with detaining a person while acting as a public officer under the color of authority. An additional charge of battery was dismissed with his negotiated plea, Williams said.
The incident occurred Aug. 18 after limousine driver James Levert hit Piggee’s parked van. An argument ensued and Piggee allegedly prevented Levert from leaving to call police and began to strike him, Williams said.
Piggee a 13-year-veteran of the Beverly Hills Police Department, was not arrested and has remained on active duty.
