Sherman Oaks : Reward Offered for Leads in Fatality
The city of Los Angeles on Wednesday offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver of a red Volkswagen Beetle that struck and killed a 79-year-old North Hollywood man Christmas Eve.
Harry Balbert was hit as he crossed Ventura Boulevard about 8:30 p.m. near Lemona Avenue on his way to Christmas Eve dinner, Los Angeles Police Detective Ruben Lopez said.
The Volkswagen has red paint primer spots and should still carry damage from the collision on its right front fender and windshield, Lopez said. “It hit him pretty solid, about 40 to 45” mph, he said. “On a bug, that should do some damage.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Lopez at (818) 756-8391.
