A 39-year-old alleged drunk driver led police on a wild chase on surface streets at speeds up to 70 mph Wednesday, ramming parked cars and driving into a bench filled with waiting commuters at a bus stop before pulling over and surrendering, Los Angeles police said.

At least two women were injured.

“It’s like the movies, eh?” Los Angeles Police Officer Mark Snyder said.

Los Angeles city park rangers spotted Daniel Corraghan of Van Nuys about 2 p.m. when he drove his 1983 Jeep Cherokee into a pole in a parking lot at Roscoe and Balboa boulevards, Snyder said. Corraghan sped off when the rangers approached him, he said.

Snyder said Corraghan drove east to Woodley Avenue, then south to Sherman Way, running red lights and reaching speeds near 70 mph. On Sherman Way, he hit a vehicle, then sideswiped several parked cars before turning north again on Balboa, Snyder said.

On Balboa he pulled into a gas station, then drove through a bus bench where three people were waiting for a bus, Snyder said.

Two 37-year-old women were taken to hospitals with serious injuries. Their identities were unavailable.

Corraghan eventually pulled over and let LAPD officers arrest him at the corner of Roscoe and Balboa--the same spot where he began his flight, Snyder said. He was held on suspicion of felony hit and run, and Snyder said police will seek drunk driving charges.
