FULLERTON : Some City Workers Get First Raise in Years

Share

Raises of 3% will go to 70 of the city’s top-level employees next year under a plan approved by the City Council.

The increase is justified, most council members said, because most of the employees have not had raises since 1992, and the 13 top city executives have not had pay boosts since 1990.

Those top executives, including the city clerk and city manager, earn from $71,000 to $133,000 annually.

Mayor Chris Norby, who cast the only vote against the raise for the executives, said, “I think the executive salaries are adequate.” He said he thinks some of their jobs could even be consolidated to save money.

The four other council members disagreed, however, saying that some jobs have already been consolidated and that the executives are the only employees who have not had raises in five years.

The council was unanimous, however, in approving the other employees’ raises. They include the city’s payroll technician, public information coordinator, employee benefits administrator, senior librarian and other administrative positions. Their salaries range from $34,000 to $88,000 a year.
