Driver Dies From Sniper’s Gunshot
A motorist has died after being shot in the head on Christmas, allegedly by a 13-year-old sniper who might have been trying to make a truck overturn and spill toys.
Alberto Tarango, 41, died at a hospital Wednesday. He was wounded while driving on Interstate 10.
The teenager is charged as a juvenile with deadly conduct and could face additional charges as a result of Tarango’s death. Investigators said that they are not sure what led to the shooting but that the youngster’s 9-year-old brother told them the older boy wanted to shoot out the tires of a tractor-trailer he thought was carrying video games. Instead, the rifle shot hit Tarango.
However, the El Paso Times reported Thursday that the 9-year-old said he had lied to investigators and that his brother never told him anything about trying to shoot a truck to get toys.
